DNV family cover: one person at a time
One application, several people — and each of them has to be able to show, in their own name, how they are covered for healthcare in Spain.
The rule every family application turns on
Nobody is covered simply because you are. Whether a spouse, partner, child or dependent parent can get healthcare cover through you, from what date, and with which document, has to be worked out for that person and shown in their own name: no family member's healthcare position should be assumed from the principal applicant's position. Whether it is their own entitlement or one derived from yours, it has to be established and evidenced for that person, and for the kind of application you are making.
Your own Social Security arrangements, whatever they are, do not settle the question for anybody else. Each person's healthcare position is established with that person's own evidence, and one household can perfectly well end up with different answers for different people. That is an accurately assessed application rather than a broken one. How to work through it, person by person, is the framework page’s job.

Make the list first
Everything on the framework page is done one person at a time, so the useful half-hour before you open it is spent on the list itself.
Write down every person who will be on the application, including anybody you are still deciding about. Give each of them their own sheet with their name at the top, and three lines underneath.
- How is this person covered for healthcare in Spain? Through the Spanish system, through a system abroad, or not yet at all.
- Which document says so, and does it name them? A document naming one person evidences one person.
- What is still missing? Written down explicitly, because an unwritten doubt gets resolved optimistically every time.
Most households find that two or three sheets fill themselves in and one does not. That is the normal result, and it is worth knowing which sheet is the difficult one before you spend anything: private insurance is for exactly the people who need it and nobody else.
