Not every DNV applicant needs private health insurance. We ask about your work, your Social Security and your family before we recommend anything.

No obligation. If private insurance isn't what your application needs, we'll tell you that and explain what does.

Do you need it?

Do you actually need private health insurance?

Some DNV applicants do. Many don't. It depends on how you work and how you will be covered by Social Security in Spain, and those two questions cost nothing to answer before you buy anything.

If your Spanish Social Security registration is active, or you are staying in your home country's system and your documents show that covers healthcare in Spain, private insurance may not be what your application needs at all. If you do need one, see what a policy has to cover.

The plans

The two Sanitas plans for visa applications

Sanitas calls these products Sanitas Residents para visado and Sanitas Residents Platinum para visado. “Para visado” means “for visa purposes”: they are the visa versions of the plans, not the standard EU ones.

Sanitas Residents Visa Plan

Open to non-EU, non-EEA and non-Swiss nationals. For the verified Sanitas Visa Plans, waiting periods are waived under the current policy terms. You can join up to age 75, and there is no published upper age for continuing.

Sanitas Residents Platinum Visa Plan

The premium version, for people who want more flexibility in how they use private healthcare. We'll confirm the current reimbursement and cover limits with you before you decide. You can join up to age 64, and there is no published upper age for continuing.

More about the Platinum Visa Plan →

Which one suits you depends on how you work, how you'll be covered by Social Security and the cover you want. The Spanish authorities make the final decision on your application.

Why us

Sanitas cover, with specialist guidance

We arrange Sanitas cover for people moving to Spain on the digital nomad visa, and we do three things before anything else:

  • We check whether you need it. If private insurance isn't what your application needs, we say so. That is the first question we ask, not the last.
  • We look at every person separately. A spouse, a partner, a child or a parent each needs their own answer, and we quote for the people who need cover rather than for the whole household by default.
  • We help with the paperwork. Getting the insurance documents your application asks for, and understanding what they say.

Family members can be covered together on one policy, with a discount where one applies.

Your situation

Employed, self-employed, or bringing your family?

The three situations work differently, and the difference decides what you have to show. Each has a short page.

If you're employed →

What your employer does about Spanish Social Security shapes what you have to show.

If you're self-employed →

Registering as autónomo, and what that means for your insurance documents.

If your family is coming →

Nobody inherits cover from the main applicant. Every person needs their own answer.

How Social Security decides it →

The one question that settles whether you need a policy at all.

How it works

From “which plan?” to policy in hand

  1. Tell us about your situation. How you work, who is coming with you, and when you want cover to start.
  2. We check whether you need private cover — and if you do, which of the two Sanitas visa plans fits.
  3. You get a personalised quote for the people who need cover, with the paperwork to go with it.

Medical history

Your medical history, before you commit

Private health insurance is medically underwritten, which means the insurer decides whether to accept an application, and on what terms. Tell us about your health in confidence and we'll explain what happens next before anything is submitted. We will never suggest cancelling cover you already have until a decision is final.

Prices

What it costs

Premiums depend on age, province, plan and how many people are on the policy. Rather than quote a headline figure that won't survive contact with your details, we explain what moves the price and then quote for your household.

Which Sanitas plan is right for the DNV?

I'm employed by a company abroad — what changes?

What your employer does about Spanish Social Security shapes what you need to show. If you're employed by a company abroad →

Can my whole family be on one policy?

Yes, cover can be arranged together — but we check each person first and quote for the ones who need it. Cover for your family →

What if I have a medical condition?

Tell us in confidence and we'll explain what happens next. The insurer decides whether to accept an application and on what terms, and nothing is submitted before you know where you stand.

What if my situation doesn't fit any of these?

Talk to us. A phone call is usually faster than reading, and we would rather point you in the right direction than sell you something you don't need.
